The family behind

Scarbrough Haven

Scarbrough Haven is a family owned estate venue...

Bob and Janie Scarbrough purchased the first 41-acre parcel of their haven in 2007, pursuing a notion that they would enjoy a quiet escape from the bustling Dallas metroplex. Since then, the Scarbroughs added contiguous parcels of meadowland as well as more woodland and orchards. Their philosophy has been to maintain the land’s natural appearance and enhance the landscape, using organic and natural methods whenever possible.

What began as a yearly celebration with friends and family of the azaleas blooming expanded to other annual events open to the public: Emory Blooms at Scarbrough Haven in the spring; Afternoon Teas offered two times a year; and the Fall Tour at Scarbrough Haven in November or December. Seeing so many people enjoy the property, they decided to build The Aurora to allow even more people to enjoy the property, benefit from its serene beauty, and create memories to last a lifetime.

Bob and Janie worked together in a variety of business and community endeavors for over 50 years. Through decades of world travel, they have collected art, sculpture, and other works that add to the unique character and story of the buildings and grounds.

Greer Scarbrough Blair

Greer Blair is Bob and Janie's middle daughter. She is the chief operating officer for the venue and is the point of contact for events and activities at Scarbrough Haven and brides, vendors, and other interested parties. Her creativity and skills are the driving force behind the Afternoon Teas at Scarbrough Haven. Greer excels at taking an ordinary event and making it one of a kind. She is a certified wedding planner and a certified color expert and is continually refreshing her skills and education.

Janie and Greer both separately and together have over 40 years history of planning personal, corporate, and public events, ranging in size from city-wide marathons to family reunions to intimate tea parties.

Peaceful

sanctuary

Scarbrough Haven offers a private & secluded peaceful sanctuary away from the hectic city life.

Currently, the 65-acre event property can be divided into two sections: the field and the forest. The field contains the largest event space, The Aurora at Scarbrough Haven. The forest, a separate but connected part of the property on Lake Fork, hosts the Tea Room, the Greenhouse, and the Chapel.

Field

The field is a 24-acre plot of land with gently rolling hills and pastures, a shimmering pond ideal as the backdrop for ceremony spaces, burr oak and elm trees, and a lower section portioned off for our retired horses - Big Boy, Honey Pie, Gunn - and our donkey Sourdough. The breathtaking Aurora sits at the highest point of the field, overlooking the pond and the pasture. Due to the east-west geography of the field, sunrise and sunset are spectacular, and the wide-open space is perfect for tented events.

Forest

The forested main property features 41 acres of a towering canopy of hardwoods creating a pastoral setting in which visitors forget they are in Texas. Gravel and manicured paths trace a landscape that guides visitors through a natural woodland containing a collection of sculptures, park benches and scenic locations for quiet reflection and watching local inhabitants such as rabbits, white-tailed deer, birds and other wildlife. Our Greenhouse, Chapel and Tea Room are located on this part of the property.

This meeting space comfortably seats 50 people for afternoon teas, wedding, bridal, or baby showers, reunions, rehearsal dinners, or offsite work events. THE GREENHOUSE AT SCARBROUGH HAVEN

This working greenhouse was built in 2013 using repurposed materials from old barns and buildings torn down on our property. Each side offers a completely different view and will seat 80 people theater style.

THE CHAPEL AT SCARBROUGH HAVEN

Without walls or a roof, this floating chapel is surrounded by towering trees, a growing field of snowdrops and is ideal for romantic wooded outdoor events. The chapel has a paved floor and will seat 80 people theater style. This building was inspired by the Historic Polegreen Church outside of Richmond, Virginia, which “commemorates the struggle for civil and religious freedom in Colonial Virginia.”
